Christmas 2010...Getting Ready

Officially the Christmas season is now over and I think we are close to getting back into our normal routine after our Christmas travels and celebrations. Given that there is SO much to tell about our Christmas break, I'm going to try to break things into smaller (hopefully logical) increments. To start...let's get ready!

After a couple of late nights preparing for our trip (packing, finishing up Christmas cards and things for work, wrapping presents, etc.), the family set out on our drive to Illinois on Wednesday, Dec 22. Thankfully, the kids again did pretty well. We stopped for a late lunch and then once more between Indy and Grandma and Grandpa's house. Just ~7 1/2 hours later, we were there! Uncle Matt had already arrived and Uncle Mark and Aunt Sarah weren't too far behind us. We had a yummy supper and settled in for the night.

The next couple of days, we did some more to get ready for Christmas. Most of the presents had been wrapped, expect for the ones that Marie had picked out for the family. She stuck with it pretty well...I thought she might get bored, but she did all of the cutting, taping, and writing of the "To's" and "From's" with only a little help from me. Marie also helped Grandma to roll out and bake Christmas cookies, which were then beautifully painted by both Marie and by Joey.

On Christmas Eve, Marie and Joey got to help Grandma set up the Nativity scene, one of the things that I always loved doing as a child. By the time they were finished, the stable was pretty crowded. Understandably, everyone wanted to be as close to Baby Jesus as possible. We didn't even worry about rearranging. :)

After that it was off for a quick nap so that we could get ready for Christmas Eve dinner and Mass...
